Lower tolls on PLUS highways from Feb 1
In a statement issued on Friday (Jan 17), the Prime Minister’s Office has announced that PLUS will lower the tolls on their highways by 18% for all private vehicle users from Feb 1.
The concession on all PLUS highway will be extended by 20 years from 2038 to 2058, with no more toll hikes.
The government would not have to pay any compensation to PLUS on the above move. And the concession extension will enable PLUS to maintain the highway operation without depending on the government.
According to the statement, this would save the government RM42 bil throughout the concession period. And the savings can be used by the government on initiatives that will benefit the rakyat.
The highways involved on the tolls reduction includes the North-South Highway (PLUS), New Klang Valley Express (NKVE), North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite), Malaysian Singapore Second Link (Linkedua), East Coast Highway Phase Two (LPT2), Port-Dickson-Seremban Highway (SPDH), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) and Penang Bridge (JPP).
